This is a shot of the mountain from the AM station. The AM station was located right along the perimeter road and was in the corner of the 2nd 1st Cav.'s Motor Pool area. 2/1 provided AFVN with some support and they ate in their mess hall. Click here for a Christmas menu from 1968 or here for another one. 2/1 took part in a major tank battle in March of 1969 in Can To. One of their Detachment members James Beamer happened to go on convoy with the 2/1 commander and ended up in the battle with the commander. He was gone about seven days. His plan was just to ride up and back with the convoy so he only took one roll. All hell broke loose when they got up there and he was stuck until it was over.
